Mechanical fuel injection is holding its own against EFI and racing carbs in racing. It is simple, lower cost in many applications, and good for fuel pressure increases for more response & power. One recent application tested racing carbs, EFI, and mechanical fuel injection all on the same racing engine. Another recent application tested mechanical fuel injection against racing carbs in a factory developed combination. In both applications, mechanical fuel injection was good for about 5% more horsepower. Fuel pressure is limited in common EFI racing packages. Reduced flow from the venturi’s is a limit in carbs.
